What is cosmetic breast augmentation mammoplasty surgery?

Breast augmentation mammoplasty, also called ‘breast implant surgery,’ is a popular cosmetic breast procedure. As the name suggests, it is usually performed using implants. The implants are chosen according to the patient’s desired appearance and preferences and inserted by Dr Rastogi through careful incisions.

In some cases, patients may opt for a fat transfer technique, also called autologous fat grafting. This involves removing some amount of fat tissue from an area of the body, for example, the thighs or abdomen. Dr Rastogi then prepares and administers the fat tissue to the breasts.

In both cases, the aim of breast augmentation mammoplasty is to alter the volume, shape, or symmetry of the breasts.

Who is the procedure for?

The procedure is typically for women who desire to increase, or ‘augment,’ their breast volume. This can be for a number of reasons. For example, patients may undergo the procedure to address concerns about:

  • Natural breast size
  • Breast asymmetry
  • Shape irregularities
  • Loss of volume due to ageing
  • Loss of volume due to weight loss or pregnancy

The procedure can address these common concerns, allowing patients to alter their breast size and proportions. Since the outcomes are specific to the patient, their surgery, and their goals, you should discuss your expectations with Dr Rastogi to clarify an achievable vision.

However, the above aren’t the only criteria for breast augmentation mammoplasty. Patients will also need to be good candidates in order to undergo the procedure. This means they should be in good health, at a stable weight, and should have knowledge about what the surgery involves. Dr Rastogi will ask about your needs and assess your candidacy at your initial breast surgery consultation.

Preparation and aftercare

Knowing what to expect both pre- and post-surgery can be helpful before making your decision about whether to pursue this procedure.

The pre-surgery phase involves some thorough research, consultations, and planning. During your initial consultation, Dr Rastogi will help you understand what is involved in the surgery process, as well as your options and risks. You can express your preferences for the type of implants you desire and what kind of outcome you are looking for. Additionally, Dr Rastogi will help you to understand what to expect after surgery and what is involved in caring for the healing areas.

After the procedure is the recovery process, which involves following instructions for your at-home aftercare. Aftercare can vary somewhat between patients. However, it typically involves getting enough rest, avoiding things like smoking and sun exposure, and wearing a support garment. We will provide you with further instructions to support your recovery after your breast augmentation mammoplasty.

Common surgery risks and complications

Prior to committing to your procedure, there are several things to consider, and one important consideration is the potential risks and complications. Patients should understand that expected results are not something surgeons can guarantee, and there are always surgical risks. Risks may include:

  • Unwanted outcomes
  • Further surgery
  • Allergic reactions
  • Implant rotation
  • Implant leak or rupture
  • Capsular contracture
  • Infection and bleeding
  • Healing problems
  • Poor scarring

These side effects may require treatment or further surgery. If you have any concerns following your breast augmentation mammoplasty, get in touch with Dr Rastogi.
