Liposuction with Dr Rastogi

Dr Rastogi is experienced in liposuction in Sydney

Liposuction is performed to alter the body’s contours by removing excess fat to create a slimmer shape. While not a weight loss procedure, liposuction can still be performed on bigger patients, so long as their lifestyle changes afterwards.

During a liposuction procedure, tiny incisions are made into the skin. These incisions are usually around 4mm in size, although they can be bigger or smaller, depending on your doctor and the instruments used. Once those incisions are made, fluids are placed into the area where the liposuction will be performed. This is done to soften the fat, numb the area, and tighten blood vessels to prevent excessive bruising.

The instrument used to perform liposuction is known as a cannula. This is a long, thin tube with a rounded end with a series of holes along the shaft. A common misconception surrounding liposuction is that the doctor sticks a tube in to suck the fat out. This is not strictly true. Think of the cannula like a file. During liposuction, the cannula is moved backwards and forwards, acting like a file that files the fat down to create the desired shape. Those tiny filings of fat then come out through suction.

Very little blood is involved in a liposuction procedure, both because the fat is very soft and because the blood vessels in the area have been shrunken down by the medications placed into the incisions. This means that once the fat is removed, the skin will contract. After the procedure, patients will typically need to wear a garment to hold the skin against the muscles, allowing the skin to re-fix to its new shape.

How much does liposuction cost in Sydney?

As with most cosmetic procedures, liposuction has a multi-faceted cost structure. The cost components of your liposuction procedure include doctors fees, anaesthetist’s fees, and hospital fees.

Firstly, Dr Rastogi will charge a fee to perform your liposuction. doctors fees usually differ from doctor to doctor, depending on their qualifications, experience, and professional recognition. Due to Dr Rastogi’s vast experience, you can expect Dr Rastogi’s fees to reflect this.

In addition, you will need to pay a fee to your anaesthetist, who administers your medication throughout the procedure and pay fees to the hospital for operating theatre space. We will give you an estimation of these fees prior to surgery.

Ultimately, the cost of liposuction depends on the area being treated. The more areas you treat, the more the procedure will go up in cost. Some areas are bigger and take a little longer; however, even some smaller areas can take extra time.

If you are interested in liposuction, we recommend booking a consultation with Dr Rastogi to receive a more accurate idea of how much the procedure will cost.

What is the difference between Dr Rastogi’s Liposuction Technique and Standard Liposuction?

There is a big difference between Dr Rastogi’s liposuction technique and standard liposuction. Dr Rastogi’s technique is not concentrated on the bulk reduction of fat as a standard liposuction procedure is but instead uses fat removal to sculpt the figure.

Dr Rastogi’s technique is performed using specialised microcannulas and advanced techniques. Superficial undermining is the technique of removing fat from directly underneath the skin.

What happens during the procedure?

Liposuction can be performed under local or general anaesthesia, depending on your preference.

Once you have been anaesthetised, Dr Rastogi will inject the target area with a saline solution mixed with an anaesthetic to prepare the fat for treatment. He will then make a very small incision in the treatment area, through which he will insert the Vaser probe. Once positioned correctly, the device will deliver ultrasonic energy to break up and dissolve the fat. Using a cannula, this fat is then suctioned out of the treatment area. After the procedure is complete, a small amount of the solution will be left in the target area to reduce discomfort and will be absorbed by the body in a few days.

Liposuction treatment areas

Liposuction techniques can be used to reshape numerous areas of the body, which include:

  • Abdomen
  • Hips
  • Thighs
  • Buttocks
  • Knees
  • Lower legs
  • Back
  • Upper arms
  • Chest
  • Face

Liposuction recovery

Following your liposuction procedure, you will need to take some time to rest and heal. Immediately after surgery, Dr Rastogi will apply dressings to the treated area, and you will be provided with compression garments to minimise swelling and support healing. Swelling, bruising and soreness are to be expected after liposuction surgery; however, this can be managed with medication prescribed by Dr Rastogi.

Most liposuction patients can return to their everyday tasks and activities in at least two days and usually return to work within a week after surgery. Physically demanding work is an exception, as patients must avoid all strenuous activities for at least six weeks following their liposuction procedure.

It is important to remember that you will not see the results of your liposuction immediately. Post-surgical swelling can persist for several months.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my fat return after having liposuction?

To answer this question, we first need to understand how physiology affects how fat works. Fat cells are like brain cells – the body can create new ones; however, it is difficult for the body to do so. Essentially, when fat cells are physically removed from the body, the body has trouble putting new ones back in. When people gain or lose weight, they don’t gain more or less fat cells. Instead, their fat cells get larger or smaller, but the number of fat cells in the body remains the same. During a liposuction procedure, the fat cells are physically removed. Once they are removed, they are less likely to return.

If a person only removes a few fat cells in a specific area and the majority remain in the body, a little bit of expansion in those remaining fat cells will return the body to a similar shape. However, if a person undergoes a more significant liposuction procedure and most of the fat cells in an area are removed, the ability to regain fat in that area is significantly reduced. For this reason, Dr Rastogi will usually remove 70 to 80 percent of the fat that’s in an area when performing liposuction.

So, why doesn’t Dr Rastogi remove all of the fat cells in the treated area? The reason for this is that the shape of the figure results from the remaining fat. The vast bulk of fat will be removed during the procedure, which will remove the vast bulk of your ability to gain weight.

A common question that Dr Rastogi receives is: If the fat is gone from my abdomen, will it come back somewhere else? The short answer to that is no. The longer answer? Maybe.

Why is this? It isn’t that your fat will go somewhere else because it couldn’t go to the area that was removed during your liposuction. Instead, it’s because we’ve removed the areas that caused your problem, meaning that you don’t perceive weight gain until you’ve relaxed your lifestyle and gained weight in areas that you normally wouldn’t have. In short, if you maintain a healthy lifestyle after your procedure, you won’t gain fat in new areas.

Am I a candidate for liposuction?

Suitable candidates for liposuction may be men and women who:

  • Struggle with excess fat deposits that don’t respond to diet and exercise
  • Are at a stable, healthy weight
  • Have good skin elasticity
  • Are in good physical health
  • Have realistic expectations of what liposuction surgery can achieve
  • Do not smoke

Learn more about whether you are a suitable candidate for liposuction by booking a consultation with Dr Rastogi.

What can I expect during my liposuction consultation?

Your consultation with Dr Rastogi provides you with an opportunity to discuss the procedure.

Dr Rastogi will examine your areas of concern to determine whether liposuction is a viable option for you. He will take pre-operative photographs for medical records before discussing the procedure steps, recovery period and associated risks. Dr Rastogi will take the time to answer any questions you may have so that you can leave your consultation with the knowledge required to make an informed decision to proceed with surgery.

What can I do to prepare for my liposuction procedure?

During your liposuction consultation, Dr Rastogi will give you a comprehensive list of instructions to help you prepare for surgery. To reduce complications, Dr Rastogi will ask you to quit smoking and may recommend adjusting certain medications. He will also provide instructions on what to do the day before your procedure regarding fasting, showering and what to bring to the hospital. To ensure your comfort during the procedure, it is vital that you follow his instructions carefully.

What results can I expect from my liposuction procedure?

Your liposuction results will not be visible immediately after surgery. While you may notice subtle changes in your contours, you will need to allow time for swelling to subside and the skin to retract before your final results become visible. This can take anywhere between three to 12 months. Despite this, your liposuction results should be permanent, provided that you practice healthy diet and exercise habits following surgery.

What scarring can I expect after liposuction?

Although scarring is an inevitable part of any cosmetic procedure, liposuction usually results in very small scars. The cannulas used to remove your fat are very small, meaning that you can expect your scars to be less than one centimetre long. These scars may fade within six to 12 months following surgery.

Why do I need to wear a compression garment following liposuction?

You will need to wear a compression garment following your liposuction procedure. This is to minimise swelling and help your body conform to its new contours. Depending on Dr Rastogi’s instructions, you will need your compression garment full-time for around three weeks and three weeks part-time.

How much fat can liposuction remove?

Dr Rastogi will remove up to 80 percent of fat in the treatment area during your liposuction procedure, depending on your desired outcome and the percentage of body fat in the area. However, keep in mind that Dr Rastogi does abide by the guidelines that suggest that no more than five litres are removed from the body in a single procedure. If you wish to remove more than five litres of fat, you may require additional liposuction procedures.

Do I need to be a certain weight to undergo liposuction?

It is important to remember that liposuction is not a method for weight loss. While Dr Rastogi can treat patients who are overweight, there is only so much fat that he can remove. As such, we advise that you achieve a healthy, stable weight before surgery.

What are the complications associated with liposuction surgery?

While Dr Rastogi is an experienced doctor who always takes every step to minimise complications, every cosmetic procedure is associated with a level of risk. In particular, some of the potential liposuction complications to be aware of include:

  • Complications with anaesthesia
  • Swelling, bruising, and bleeding
  • Infection
  • Delayed healing
  • Fluid accumulation
  • Changes in skin sensation
  • Blood clots
  • Poor scarring
  • Numbness
  • Loose skin
  • Asymmetry
