Contemplating Surgery Overseas? Watch This First.
Australians opting for overseas cosmetic procedures including breast augmentation surgery and liposuction surgery is on the rise. This has been a topic of interest in the news of late, particularly with some of the concerning stories coming out of Mexico. Over 15,000 Australians undertake cosmetic surgery tourism every year. Here, Dr Rastogi Cosmetic Surgeon speaks to the Sunrise Programme on behalf of the Australasian College of Cosmetic Surgery.
“There are good surgeons all over the world. The problem when you go in to medical tourism is you don’t know who you’re going to get and all surgery carries complications” says Dr Rastogi. “When you travel overseas, you can’t get the same standard of after care”.
So why do so many Aussies decide to head overseas for their surgery? As Dr Rastogi states “In Australia, cosmetic surgery is done so well, that people have that confidence that, well, it’s the same everywhere. And it’s not.”
If you’re considering travelling overseas for surgery, visit the Australasian College of Cosmetic Surgery website first, so you can research the surgeon you have in mind and the specific procedures they are qualified to do.
